Squid fishing (eging) is huge around Sydney – from the harbour and Botany Bay to the rocks at Kurnell and Long Reef – and this is the biggest dedicated squid range in the south-west. Getting started: a 2.5–3.0 size jig covers most Sydney squidding; go 3.5 in current or deeper water and 1.8–2.5 for the small arrow squid. Natural (pink/orange) colours by day, glow and UV at night and dawn. We list the sink rate on every jig so you can match it to the depth you’re fishing. An 8’–8’6″ egi rod with a 2500–3000 reel and PE0.6–0.8 braid is the classic outfit.
